On 1 August 2025, the UK Supreme Court delivered its long-awaited judgment on motor finance mis-selling, ruling that certain agreements were unfair – especially where excessive commissions or dealer-set interest rates were involved.
Following this, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) confirmed it will consult on a national compensation scheme, expected to begin in 2026. Lenders are likely to be forced to refund customers, with payouts estimated at up to £18 billion.
